HotShotz
Since 2020, HotShotz the OVA HotShotz programme has used football as a platform to give back, bringing together volunteer coaches and young participants through meaningful, community-driven engagement. Beyond the game, the programme aims to nurture confidence, teamwork, discipline, and a love of sport.
HotShotz is built on the belief that sports can create meaningful opportunities for children beyond the game itself. The idea is to build confidence, It's about building confidence, strengthen character and create opportunities for every participant to thrive.
At HotShotz, we believe sport has the power to change lives. Through regular coaching, mentorship, and a supportive team environment, participants develop resilience, teamwork, discipline and a genuine sense of belonging.
As everyone discover their potential - both on and off the field, we hope to shape confident, resilient, and compassionate young people.
Our Story
HotShotz is more than a community football programme - it is a movement that transforms lives through the power of sport.
An initiative of the Old Victorians' Association, HotShotz was the brainchild of Victorian alumnus, educator and coach Shahul Hamid Abdul Majeed on a simple yet powerful belief; every child deserves the opportunity to play, belong and succeed.
What began on the Victoria School football field as a grassroots programme for children aged 5 to 12 has grown into a vibrant community where football becomes a pathway to confidence, character, and lifelong friendships.
When a child is given a chance to play, they are also given a chance to dream.

Our Journey
What began as a coffeeshop conversation and a simple idea has grown into a structured programme with growing impact.
Inspired by his wife’s work in an integrated pre-school, Shahul saw how few opportunities children with special needs had to play sport. With guidance from his mentor Mike Wong, support from the OVA Council, and the generosity of Victoria School and former Principal Mr Chow Weisi, HotShotz took shape on Saturday mornings at the VS field in 2021.
Starting with alumni children and a small group of participants, the programme soon expanded to include:
• Children on the autism spectrum and with hearing challenges
• Children from ComLink and Comlink+ families in Eunos, Geylang, and Marine Parade
• Girls and boys who simply needed a safe, structured place to play and grow
Over time, with the support of Mr Chow Weisi, former principal of VS; Mr Low Chun Meng, the current VS Principal; and their staff, HotShotz partnered with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (Geylang and Bedok) to introduce enrichment lessons to complement what they learn in schools and ad hoc modules aimed at instilling life skills such as financial literacy. These sessions were held once training concluded.
In collaboration with partners including Sport Singapore, the Football Association of Singapore, and later Tasek Academy and Social Services, HotShotz continued to evolve and expanded from two sessions a month to a regular, multi-session programme. Numbers rose from about 20 participants to nearly 50 at its peak, with age-grouped training and even an all-girls team. These participants will utilise classrooms in Victoria School to revisit concepts taught in their Mathematics lessons in schools. There is support from Victoria School students who does this as part of their contribution in their Values-In-Action component.

Giving Back
HotShotz is powered by volunteers and generosity. Coaches, many of them Victorians, give their time freely on Saturday mornings. The programme is free to attend; participants pay only a modest fee for attire, and even that is covered for families who cannot afford it.
Beyond the field, giving back means:
• Opening Victoria School’s facilities for community use
• Providing a safe, structured environment for children who might otherwise be left on the sidelines
• Inviting agencies and partners to share life skills, values, and role models with the children
• Creating opportunities for Victoria School students to serve as tutors, mentors and big brothers to the younger ones as part of their Values-In_Action programme.
Each session is more than a game. It is a chance for the Victorian family to serve the wider community and to live out the belief that sport can uplift lives.
A Living Legacy
HotShotz stands in a long line of Victorian traditions where education and sport build character and courage. Shahul’s own journey — from a boy playing barefoot in Chai Chee, to a Victorian football vice-captain, to teacher and coach — shapes the programme’s spirit. Whilst growing up, he experienced firsthand how teachers, coaches and simple acts of kindness, like a first pair of proper football boots and running shoes, can change a young person’s path. Shahul is paying it forward. That same spirit lives on in HotShotz. Every Saturday morning, when you see a sea of yellow and white gathering at the field, they inherit a legacy of grit, humility and service. The programme’s impact is already visible: improved school attendance, new friendships, increased confidence, and even doors opening to further education and football opportunities. HotShotz is not about producing stars. It is about ensuring no child is left behind — that every player feels seen, supported and lifted by their community.
